Project Description
EDC: Kinetic Temple, Stage Design
Insomniac, 2016
For the third year in collaboration with Insomniac, Leisure Expert Group was closely involved in the creative interpretation of America’s largest dance festival EDC. We took part in developing the storylines of three different stages which seamlessly fitted into the EDC overall brand identity. Besides that, we helped with the development of the festival’s brand identity to make the complete guest journey one coherent experience.
For the festival, we also produced video content and a number of time code shows, such as the openings ceremony, different intermezzo shows and the final show. These shows were all devised and programmed beforehand, making sure all the different effects, such as light, video content, fire, pyro, water and laser were perfectly timed, literally to the millisecond.

Kinetic Field 2016
For three consecutive years, we designed and produced the main stage of EDC, which was called The Kinetic Temple in 2016. The concept was build around the Tree of Imagination in the middle of the Temple: “as long as there is imagination, we will be able to change the world …”. Besides the stage, we also designed the costumes for the performances and develop the special Owlphabet, the age old script of the owl folk.
Neon Garden Stage
The second stage we created was the Neon Garden stage where guests can dance in the middle of a titillating maze of neon colored flowers. The stage was designed with the focus on bright colors and tall objects to put all senses in overdrive. To enhance the experience of the stage, we also designed an extensive lighting plan that fitted the concept.
Wasteland Stage
The third stage that was created for EDC 2016 was the hard style stage, called Wasteland. Guests at this stage celebrated their survival of the green nuclear disaster in the middle of destroyed containers, a cablecar and the bridge. The enormous crab in the center was created as a sign of hope for destroyed places.
