Project Description
EDC: Kinetic Cathedral, stage design
Insomniac Events, 2014
The first time of Leisure Expert Group cooperating with Insomniac was for the EDC festival in 2014. For this three-day festival, we were not only asked to design and produce two stages, but also to create the main stage in such a way that it could tour the world to reinforce the EDC brand. Furthermore, we created the storylines on which the stage designs were based and we produced the intermezzo shows at the main stage.
As this being our first year as partner of Insomniac it was a bit of a challenge. We had to compress the 135m Las Vegas stage into a tourable stage while maintaining the same feel and design. We successfully achieved this by replacing the painted panels with printed panels with digital art to create even more detail in the overall experience. And by adding the impressive owls guarding the DJ’s and the shows production, it all came together perfectly at every location.

Kinetic Cathedral
The backstory of the Kinetic Field Mainstage was Kinetic Cathedral: eight worlds within one energetic show. This story was told by the iconic cathedral elements such as the stained glass, the altar and the owls, but also throughout the intermezzo shows. With the use special effects, fireworks, lasers, composed music and video content on seven gigantic LED, guests were taken on a journey through the different fantasy worlds. These time coded shows brought the complete story alive and seamlessly fitted with the concept of EDC; a total experience for the visitors.
Basscon Stage
The second stage we designed and produced was the hardstyle stage, called Basscon stage. The storyline was based on an unearthly Armageddon experience for the guest on a spot where the nuclear power station once stood. This experience was created with all kinds of used industrial materials, such as old Vegas signposts, storage containers embellished with graffiti art and to top it off an apocalyptic monster.
