Project Description
Tornado Springs, masterplanning & design development
Paultons Park, 2021
Tornado Springs is a themed area masterplanned and designed by Leisure Expert Group. The area opened in 2021 at Paultons Park and features 6 iconic rides including: Stormchaser, Al’s Auto Academy, Buffalo Falls, Windmill Towers, the Cyclonator and Trekking Tractors. The overall theme of the area tells the story about a small town along “Route 83”, where tornadoes cause havoc and danger. Luckily the town has learned to live with and harness the power of these powerful storms and is now a popular tourist destination for true adventurers.
The area was scheduled to open in 2020, but due to the coronavirus pandemic the park decided to postpone the opening to April 2021. Eventually the area opened on the 12th of April 2021 and has welcomed guests ever since.
A new adventure for the area is already planned by the park: Farmyard Flyer will open at a later moment and this addition has also been designed by Leisure Expert Group.

Adding a themed area to an existing park
Back in 2018, Paultons Park asked us what the best way to integrate a new area into the existing park lay-out would be. We took a look at the park circulation plans and drew up a master plan for a new area that would complement the eastern side of the park. We looked into sight lines, merging 2 existing rides and adding new experiences.
Concept design with a twist(er)
After an extensive brainstorming session together with the team at the park, we opted for a western theme with a twist. A quite literal twist as we decided upon an American town along the famous Route 83 in the middle of Tornado Alley. This made the 80’s Americana inspired theme unique to Paultons Park and unlike any other Western themed area around the world.
Developing the Brand Identity
Being as unique of a theme for the area, it also required a brand identity. Therefor we created a brand identity package for the Paultons Park their in-house graphic department to use in future marketing and signage applications. This included logos, color palettes and application suggestions.
3D Design Development
As we continue to improve our design process, Tornado Springs was the first project that was fully developed in a 3D environment from the first conceptual desings. This ensures that all dimensions, perspectives and integrations during the design process as similar to those during the construction and eliminated unexpected surprises during construction.
Tornado Springs: Concept to Reality
A true family friendly themed area and great addition to Paultons Park. Hear what Richard and James Mancey, directors of Paultons Park have to say about their brand new area!
