Project Description
Speed Zone, concept design
Walibi Holland, 2020
To continue the Festivalization rebranding after the Main Street and Wilderness, Walibi Holland created the Speed Zone area as third to transform. We created many festival experiences as official design partner of Insomniac Events, making us the perfect supplier to create a festival like atmosphere in the theme park. Similar to the Wilderness project, Walibi Holland had already done extensive work on defining the concept of the area to build upon before approaching us to design the scenic transformation of the area.
The Speed Zone area visualizes the automotive world in an unexpected way by avoiding to use the obvious elements in a like-themed area. This atmosphere was created by adding a scenic themed layer to the existing facilities and attractions. As well as several façades such as the brand new “car-front” for the diner of the area, produced with larger than life automotive elements and an impressive new air-fix-car-kit-façade for the well-known Goliath.

Crossover between theme parks and festivals
An interesting development in the theme park industry is the crossover theme park-festival that is happening right now. A couple of years ago, we had been asked by Insomniac events to infuse their EDC festival with some theme park magic and now Walibi Holland is asking us to do the exact opposite. It shows a broader trend of leisure activities competing with one another. And with so many offerings and limited time available, parks want to satisfy as many guests as possible.
