Project Description
Wilderness, concept design
Walibi Holland, 2019
As part of the Festivalization rebranding of the Park, Walibi Holland selected the former Sherwood’s forest to be rethemed to a new area named Wilderness. The highlight of the new area is hybrid coaster ‘Untamed’. When Walibi Holland approached us for the concept design of the Wilderness area, they had already done extensive work on defining the concept of the area. Moodboards defining look and feel were at hand, and we were asked to design the scenic transformation of the area.
Walibi Holland wanted to create a festival like atmosphere, which is something we have done for many other festivals such as Electric Daisy Carnival and Escape. We had to work with the existing rides and buildings in the area, creating a new scenic layer on top. The result is a brand-new area identity which is completely different from what it used to be. And with the new signature ride “Untamed” as eye-catcher, the area is sure to offer new and exciting experiences to guests of all ages.

Crossover between theme parks and festivals
An interesting development in the theme park industry is the crossover theme park-festival that is happening right now. A couple of years ago, we had been asked by Insomniac events to infuse their EDC festival with some theme park magic and now Walibi Holland is asking us to do the exact opposite. It shows a broader trend of leisure activities competing with one another. And with so many offerings and limited time available, parks want to satisfy as many guests as possible.
